AHS Conventions

Each spring the AHS holds a Convention. In 2009 this was the AHS's Press Launch, and featured a day of speakers, whilst in 2010 the day was training-oriented (though the BHA Choir performed). 2011 combined both these ideas, turning the Convention into a two-day event - a speakers day followed by a training day.

Each year also features a "non-religious organisations fair", featuring stands from the national organisations that campaign for atheist, Humanist, secular and skeptical causes. The fair is a chance to find out more about these organisations. Organisations that have exhibited in the past include the British Humanist Association, South Place Ethical Society, Centre for Inquiry UK, Camp Quest UK, National Secular Society, Sense About Science/Voice of Young Science, Education for Choice, The Pod Delusion, The BHA Choir, Ancestor's Trail, Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain, Accord Coalition, Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association, New Humanist Magazine, 10:23 Campaign, Skeptics in the Pub, local Humanist groups, AHS member societies and, of course, the AHS itself.

2009 AHS Press Launch - London

The first Convention was held in February 2009 and was also the AHS's Press Launch. The day featured talks from AHS President Norman Ralph, BHA Chief Executive Andrew Copson, BHA President Polly Toynbee and BHA Vice Presidents Richard Dawkins and A C Grayling. The event was held in Conway Hall, Central London, and also featured the first non-religious societies fair. Photos from the day can be seen here.

2010 AHS Convention - Oxford

The second AHS Convention featured a performance by the BHA Choir, and saw the return of the non-religious societies fair. However, the day was primarily committee-focused, with training workshops and speeches from member societies. The day took place in Linacre College Hall, Oxford, and photos can be seen here.

2011 AHS Convention - London

The AHS's third annual convention saw the convention for the first time be spread over two days, with the Saturday being a day of speakers in Conway Hall, Holborn, and the Sunday being a committee-oriented day in the UCL Cruciform. The Saturday featured talks from Professor A C Grayling, Johann Hari, Robin Ince, BHA Chief Executive Andrew Copson, NSS Vice President Gerard Phillips, and Parliamentary Humanist Group Chair Lord Warner. There was also a performance from the BHA Choir, and the third non-religious societies fair. The Sunday featured training workshops, speeches from member societies, an EGM and the first society awards. More on the weekend can be seen here.
