Non-Prophet Week - Day 5

Only two days left until the end of Non-Prophet Week and I get my evenings back. Societies have been proudly wearing their t-shirts up and down the country and proving that charity is indeed secular and not only for the religious.

The Freethinkers of Leicester Atheists, Secularists and Humanists ran an ‘Egg an Atheist’ event. President Dean Schneider said, ‘It went really well. It was a bit of a dreary day, but people seemed to love it.’ They raised around £38 in just over an hour of egging. I don’t know about you guys, but I wish I’d been there to witness this event.

Jenny Bartle, AHS President has taken up her pen and drawn 15 pictures as requested by sponsors, and raised £120 so far! Jenny said, ‘Jenny crayon has been really fun! I've slaved away over a hot graphics tablet for hours, but am so proud of some of the drawings. Notably strange requests were Darwin riding a unicycle playing a cello and Dawkins smashing Russell's teapot on the head of a creationist. What I've learned from this is that everyone I know has terrifying imaginations, that Dawkins and Darwin are really easy to do caricatures of, and that Cthulus can be cute!'

If you want Jenny to draw you a picture there is still time, go to http://www.justgiving.com/Jenny-Bartle to donate.

Jess Vautier, AHS Head of Membership, is as far as I know the only person to respond to the AHS’s call to donate blood. It was her first donation, and she is afraid of needles and intends to become a regular blood donator. So massive well done to her! Last year’s Non-Prophet Week saw 5 pints being donated and it would be fantastic to see us beat it this time.

Jess has also has so far sung 8 out of 21 songs that have been requested (18 donations altogether, though Norman Ralph (AHS Trustee) gets 5 songs because he donated so much and Dan Palmer (Southampton President doesn't want to request a song!). She’s raised £240 and stated, ‘I'm sooooo impressed‘. She say’s, ‘the strangest request is probably Richy Thompson (last years AHS President) and Emma Bell's - they want me to sing the Thunderbirds theme tune... which doesn't have any words! Though "Bat Out of Hell" for Andrew West (AHS Webmaster) and Weird Al's "Hardware Store" for Robbie Yellon (UCL President) come close, not to mention the fun I had learning the Pokemon theme song for Tom Grainger (Southampton Atheist Society)!

If you want Jess to sing you a song there is still time. Donate at:

Mike Paynter, AHS Secretary, has also begun his 100 mile cycle ride. He stated he ‘has not been preparing too much - I've been out cycling. I gave Greta (my bike) a tune - oiled her up and tweaked her spoke nipples (no word of a lie!). I can't say I'm complacent, groin strain is definitely a possibility, so I'll need to make sure I stretch well before I head out. Decorating the cakes was great fun - getting them to Cheltenham and Gloucester perhaps less so!’

He’s been making podcasts as he goes - you can listen here: http://www.ipadio.com/phlogs/MichaelPaynter/. And donate here - make his long journey worth it.
